Road Trip Car Rental in Paphos

A road trip in Cyprus works best when you are not counting kilometres. On our rentals, mileage is unlimited, so the length of your route never changes the rental price. Fuel is the only distance cost, and it is yours. This guide gives you four routes from Paphos, a preparation checklist, and the rules that keep your rental cover intact. CHMI Rentals has served Paphos for over 23 years from Tombs of the Kings Avenue.

Plan the Length of the Trip

Our minimum rental is 72 hours (3 days). That fits a road trip well, because the best routes need a couple of days. Our short rental rates are set for 3, 7 and 21 days, and the fleet page shows each car's price for those lengths. The longer the rental, the lower the price per day. See weekend car rental and weekly car rental.

Route 1: The South Coast to Limassol

  1. Start in Paphos and take the paved coast road east.
  2. Stop at Petra tou Romiou, the rock linked with Aphrodite. Aphrodite Hills, with its resort and golf course, is near the road.
  3. Continue along the coast to Limassol, where the seafront promenade and marina make a natural stop for coffee or lunch.
  4. Return by the motorway.

Limassol is about 45 to 50 minutes from Paphos Airport by motorway.

Route 2: The North-West to Polis and Latchi

  1. Head north along the coast through Chloraka and Kissonerga.
  2. Stop at Coral Bay for a beach break, and at Peyia and the harbour at Agios Georgios.
  3. Continue to Polis and Latchi for a waterfront lunch or a boat trip.

Polis and Latchi are about 50 to 55 minutes from Paphos Airport. They are outside our free delivery area, so delivery there has an extra charge; call the shop.

Route 3: The Hills Above Paphos

  1. Drive inland to Tala, a hillside village with sea views.
  2. Visit the monastery of Agios Neophytos nearby.
  3. Continue through the quiet villages of Empa and Mesa Chorio, minutes from town.

Route 4: Across the Island

If you are flying into Larnaca, the drive to Paphos is a trip in itself: around 134 km, about 1 hour 30 minutes on the A1 and A6 motorways. Limassol is a natural stop on the way. To drop the car at Larnaca Airport instead, call the shop; there is a charge. See Larnaca to Paphos.

For mountain drives towards the Troodos villages, stay on paved roads, because off-road driving is not permitted.

Where You May Not Drive

Important

Under our terms, the rental car may not be used in Northern Cyprus, the Akamas region, or off-road. Damage there voids cover and makes the renter fully liable.

The Right Car for the Road

  • Compact automatics keep fuel costs down and parking easy on a route with many stops.
  • An SUV is more comfortable for long days behind the wheel, with more space and a higher driving position. See SUV rental.
  • The Nissan X-Trail has room for a family and its luggage for the whole route. See Nissan X-Trail hire.

Road Trip Checklist

  • Fill up before you start, since petrol stations can be spaced out on the motorway. Petrol is non-refundable, so return the car with the same level you received.
  • Set your satnav before you set off, and use a phone holder, not your hand.
  • Use a sun shade and keep water in the car in summer.
  • Keep to the left lane on the motorway except to overtake.
  • Take a break if you feel tired.
  • Contact us if a warning light appears. Do not arrange your own repairs without asking.
  • Lock the car whenever it is parked. Lost or broken keys are the renter's responsibility.

Driving on the Left: The Basics

  • Cyprus drives on the left, and your rental car has the steering wheel on the right.
  • Roundabouts run clockwise, and traffic already on the roundabout has priority over cars entering it.
  • Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on motorways, with a minimum of 65 km/h.
  • Speed cameras are common, and fines are issued automatically. The renter pays all traffic fines.
  • Wearing a seat belt is the law, and that includes rear passengers.

What You Need to Rent

  • A valid driving licence. Drivers must be over 21, or have at least 3 years of driving experience.
  • Your passport or ID, which is left as security under our terms.
  • Cash or a credit card. Debit cards are not accepted, and you do not need a credit card if you pay in cash. See renting without a credit card.

What to Check at Handover

  • Confirm the fuel level matches your rental agreement.
  • Photograph any existing scratches or dents before you leave the pickup area.
  • Check that the insurance excess and your documents are as agreed.
  • Adjust the seat, mirrors and steering position, and find the indicators and wipers.
  • Set your satnav before you move off, not while driving.
