Automatic Car Rental in Paphos
If you would rather not manage a clutch on unfamiliar roads, you are in the right place. Every passenger car in our rental fleet is an automatic. That covers the four compact hatchbacks and both Nissan X-Trails. The one manual is our Ford Transit cargo van. This guide lists the cars, explains why an automatic helps in Paphos and shows what each costs. CHMI Rentals has served Paphos for over 23 years from Tombs of the Kings Avenue.

Why an Automatic Helps in Paphos
- Hills. Villages such as Tala, Peyia and Coral Bay sit on hillsides, and there is no clutch to manage on a slope.
- Stop-start traffic. Summer evenings around Kato Paphos and the harbour are slow, and an automatic is far less tiring.
- Driving on the left. In Cyprus the steering wheel is on the right, and you would shift with your left hand in a manual. An automatic removes one job.
- After a flight. If you land tired, a simpler car makes the first drive easier. See our after hours car rental page.
Who Chooses an Automatic
- Visitors who drive automatics at home.
- First-time drivers on the left. See our international travellers guide.
- Older drivers who want an easy car. See our senior driver guide.
- Younger or newer drivers. See our young driver guide.
Automatic Transmission Car Hire: What to Ask
Some visitors want to be certain of an automatic before they book. With us the answer is simple: every passenger car we rent is automatic, so you do not need to request one. If you need a manual, the only option is the Ford Transit cargo van, which has three seats and is for moving and deliveries. See corporate car rental.
Choosing Your Automatic
- Lowest cost: the Nissan Note, at €450 a month.
- More space and comfort: a Nissan X-Trail.
- A family: see family car hire.
- Compare all the compacts: see compact car rental.
Fuel and Costs
- The cars are petrol, and fuel is not included. Return the car with the same level you received. Petrol is non-refundable.
- Mileage is unlimited on our rentals.
- A late return carries an hourly delay fee.
- For a month or more, see long-term rental, or car leasing from three months.
Driving on the Left: The Basics
- Cyprus drives on the left, and your rental car has the steering wheel on the right.
- Roundabouts run clockwise, and traffic already on the roundabout has priority over cars entering it.
- Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on motorways, with a minimum of 65 km/h.
- Speed cameras are common, and fines are issued automatically. The renter pays all traffic fines.
- Wearing a seat belt is the law, and that includes rear passengers.
What You Need to Rent
- A valid driving licence. Drivers must be over 21, or have at least 3 years of driving experience.
- Your passport or ID, which is left as security under our terms.
- Cash or a credit card. Debit cards are not accepted, and you do not need a credit card if you pay in cash. See renting without a credit card.
How Booking and Handover Work
- Choose your car and dates on the fleet page. The minimum rental is 72 hours.
- Book at least 24 hours before if you want delivery to your hotel, villa or home, or a handover at the airport.
- Bring your documents: a valid driving licence, your passport or ID, and cash or a credit card in the renter's name.
- Meet your agent at the airport arrivals terminal, at your accommodation, or collect from our shop.
- Sign, pay and leave your passport as security, as set out in our terms.
- Return the car on time with the same fuel level. Returns are during shop hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.
What to Check at Handover
- Confirm the fuel level matches your rental agreement.
- Photograph any existing scratches or dents before you leave the pickup area.
- Check that the insurance excess and your documents are as agreed.
- Adjust the seat, mirrors and steering position, and find the indicators and wipers.
- Set your satnav before you move off, not while driving.
