Car Rental in Paphos for Older Drivers

Many older visitors and residents love to drive but want the rental itself to be simple: no queues, no fiddly gearbox, and no long trips to a depot. That is where our service is built to help. This guide explains which cars are easiest, how delivery and airport pickup work, how to plan a comfortable day out, and what to confirm before you book. CHMI Rentals has served Paphos for over 23 years from Tombs of the Kings Avenue.

What Makes a Rental Easy

  • Automatic gearboxes. Every compact car in our fleet is an automatic, so there is no clutch or gear stick to manage, which helps on Paphos's hills and in stop-start traffic.
  • Air conditioning in every car. Summers in Cyprus are hot, and every car in our compact range has air conditioning.
  • Room and comfort. The Nissan Note has extra legroom and cargo space, and the Honda Fit is described as offering excellent comfort.
  • Five doors. Getting in and out of a five-door hatchback is easier than a two-door car. Our Toyota Vitz is listed with five doors.
  • Small and easy to park. Kato Paphos and the harbour have tight streets, and a compact makes parking less stressful.
  • Bluetooth on the Suzuki Swift. Useful for hands-free calls and for navigation from your phone.

Choosing the Right Car

CarBest forMonthly rental
Nissan NoteLegroom and luggage space€450
Honda FitComfort and flexible seating€650
Suzuki SwiftAn agile car with Bluetooth€540
Toyota VitzA small city car with five doors€650

For more room, for example when visiting family joins you, an automatic SUV such as the Nissan X-Trail may be a better fit. If you are travelling with grandchildren, baby seats, child safety seats and booster seats are available on request. Tell us the ages and heights of the children at booking.

No Queues and No Trip to the Shop

At Paphos Airport, our agent meets you outside the arrivals terminal with the paperwork ready, so there is no counter queue and no shuttle bus. We track your flight, so a delay does not cost you your car, and airport delivery runs 24 hours. Returns are during shop hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm. See our Paphos airport car hire page. If you land at Larnaca instead, when you rent with us we can take you to your hotel, villa or home in Paphos, at a price agreed with the shop. Please book 24 hours before. Our Larnaca to Paphos page explains the options.

We deliver in Paphos town, at Paphos Airport and in Chloraka, Kissonerga, Peyia, Coral Bay, Tala, Empa and Mesa Chorio, so you do not have to come to the shop. Here is where we go.

Age and Licence: What to Confirm

You need a valid driving licence, your passport or ID, and cash or a credit card. A credit card is not required. Drivers must be over 21, or have at least 3 years of driving experience. Our terms of service do not mention an upper age limit. As with any rental, confirm your car and dates with the shop when you book, so there are no surprises at handover.

How Booking and Handover Work

  1. Choose your car and dates on the fleet page.
  2. Book at least 24 hours before if you want delivery to your hotel, villa or home, or a handover at the airport.
  3. Bring your documents: a valid driving licence, your passport or ID, and cash or a credit card.
  4. Meet your agent at the airport arrivals terminal, at your accommodation, or collect from our shop.
  5. Sign, pay and leave your passport as security, as set out in our terms.
  6. Return the car on time with the same fuel level. Returns are during shop hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.

Planning a Comfortable Day Out

Paphos is spread out, so a car gives you freedom. You do not have to cover long distances to enjoy it.

  • The harbour and old town. Park once, then walk. The castle, the mosaics and the promenade are close together.
  • Coral Bay. A beach day. Arrive early in summer to find space.
  • Petra tou Romiou. A scenic paved coast road east, to the rock linked with Aphrodite.
  • Polis and Latchi. A longer drive that rewards you with waterfront lunches. It is outside our free delivery area, so delivery there has an extra charge.

Mileage is unlimited on our rentals, so the length of a trip does not change the rental price. See our unlimited mileage guide. Fuel is not included, so return the car with the same level you received.

Staying Comfortable in the Heat

  • Use a sun shade, because cars heat quickly in summer.
  • Keep water in the car for summer drives.
  • Plan longer drives for the cooler parts of the day.
  • Take a break if you feel tired, and rest before you drive after a flight.

Driving on the Left: The Basics

  • Cyprus drives on the left, and your rental car has the steering wheel on the right.
  • Roundabouts run clockwise, and traffic already on the roundabout has priority over cars entering it.
  • Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on motorways, with a minimum of 65 km/h. Limits are in kilometres per hour.
  • Speed cameras, both fixed and mobile, are common, and fines are issued automatically. The renter pays all traffic fines.
  • Wearing a seat belt is the law, and that includes rear passengers.
  • Keep to the left lane on the motorway except to overtake.
  • Use a phone holder, not your hand, for navigation.
  • If you feel tired after a flight, rest before you drive.

If Something Goes Wrong

Contact us if a warning light appears or if the car needs attention. Do not arrange your own repairs without asking. Monthly plans include vehicle maintenance and a replacement car when one is available. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm, and airport delivery runs 24 hours. Returns are during shop hours, Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.

Staying for a Season?

Many older visitors spend the winter in Cyprus. For a stay of a month or more, a long-term rental is more economical than daily rates, and seasonal residents can arrange one with simple documentation. See our cheap car hire guide for the lowest-cost cars.

Book a Relaxed Rental

Tell us where you land, where you are staying and how long, and we will arrange the rest. Call or WhatsApp +357 99 655104 (office +357 26 819880), or visit us at Shop 3, Royal Complex, Tombs of the Kings Avenue, Paphos. The shop is open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm.
