City Car Rental in Paphos
Paphos is a spread-out district, but its busiest parts are compact: the harbour, the old town and the tourist strip of Kato Paphos have tight streets and limited parking. A small car is the right tool there. This guide explains how a city car helps, which of ours suit it best, how hotel delivery works and when a city car is not enough. CHMI Rentals has served Paphos for over 23 years from Tombs of the Kings Avenue.
Why Parking Decides the Car
Parking is the main challenge in Kato Paphos, especially on summer evenings when the restaurants fill up. Look for marked bays or car parks, since unmarked kerbs often mean a fine. A small car fits gaps a larger one cannot, and it is easier to place on a narrow street.
- Park once and explore on foot. The castle, the mosaics, the harbour and the promenade are close together.
- Use marked bays or car parks, not unmarked kerbs.
- Lock the car whenever it is parked. Lost or broken keys are the renter's responsibility.
- Keep luggage out of sight.
Do You Need a Car in the City at All?
| Plan | Car needed? | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Harbour, castle and promenade | No | Walk or use a short taxi ride |
| Archaeological park and mosaics | Optional | Walkable for most, a short drive in the heat |
| Coral Bay and beaches north | Yes | See Coral Bay |
| Petra tou Romiou and the south coast | Yes | A scenic paved coast road |
| Polis and Latchi | Yes | Best with a full day |
A common approach is to enjoy the first few days on foot, then rent for the days you want to explore. That saves money, and we can deliver the car to your hotel the morning you need it. Our minimum rental is 72 hours (3 days).

How Hotel and Apartment Delivery Works
- Book your car and choose Kato Paphos as the delivery point.
- Tell us your hotel or apartment name and your preferred time.
- Meet the agent at reception or outside the entrance.
- Sign, pay in cash or by credit card and leave your passport as security, per our terms.
- Return the car to the same place at the end, or ask about other options.
We deliver to hotels, resorts and apartments across the harbour area and the tourist strip, free of charge when you rent with us. Please book 24 hours before. See our Kato Paphos page.
Beyond the City
A city car is not limited to the city. The same small automatic handles the coast road to Petra tou Romiou, the hillside roads to Coral Bay and Peyia, and the motorway to Limassol. An automatic takes the effort out of hills and stop-start traffic. Mileage is unlimited on our rentals, so a day trip does not add to the price. Fuel is not included.
| From Paphos Airport to | Approx. drive |
|---|---|
| Aphrodite Hills | About 16 minutes |
| Kato Paphos harbour | About 20 minutes |
| Our shop, Tombs of the Kings Avenue | About 25 minutes |
| Coral Bay and Peyia | About 35 to 40 minutes |
| Limassol | About 45 to 50 minutes by motorway |

Times are for normal traffic and are only a guide.
When a City Car Is Not Enough
- A family of four or five with lots of luggage. Choose an SUV.
- A family with luggage. Choose the Nissan X-Trail.
- Long mountain drives. An SUV has more space and a higher driving position, though off-road driving is never allowed in a rental.
Driving on the Left: The Basics
- Cyprus drives on the left, and your rental car has the steering wheel on the right.
- Roundabouts run clockwise, and traffic already on the roundabout has priority over cars entering it.
- Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on motorways, with a minimum of 65 km/h.
- Speed cameras are common, and fines are issued automatically. The renter pays all traffic fines.
- Wearing a seat belt is the law, and that includes rear passengers.
What You Need to Rent
- A valid driving licence. Drivers must be over 21, or have at least 3 years of driving experience.
- Your passport or ID, which is left as security under our terms.
- Cash or a credit card. Debit cards are not accepted, and you do not need a credit card if you pay in cash. See renting without a credit card.
What to Check at Handover
- Confirm the fuel level matches your rental agreement.
- Photograph any existing scratches or dents before you leave the pickup area.
- Check that the insurance excess and your documents are as agreed.
- Adjust the seat, mirrors and steering position, and find the indicators and wipers.
- Set your satnav before you move off, not while driving.
