Short-Term Car Lease in Paphos: When Three to Six Months Is the Right Length

Some stays are too long for daily rental rates and too short for a three-year contract. A winter in Cyprus, a six-month project, a car to drive while your own is being imported: these are the situations a short-term car lease is built for. On our price list, the shortest lease bracket is three to six months, and the monthly figure is fixed for that period, so you know the whole cost before you start.

This guide explains who a short-term lease suits, how it compares with a monthly rental and a longer lease, what the price list looks like, and what you need to have ready. CHMI Rentals has been renting and leasing cars in Paphos for over 23 years from our office on Tombs of the Kings Avenue, so the advice below is practical rather than theoretical.

Who a Short-Term Lease Suits

  • Seasonal residents and winter visitors staying three to six months who want one car and one monthly payment for the whole stay.
  • Workers on a temporary contract in construction, hospitality, tourism or shipping, where the job has an end date but a car is needed every day.
  • People between cars, for example while a purchase or a Japan car import is on its way and the new car has not arrived yet.
  • Newcomers deciding what to buy. Leasing for a few months lets you learn the roads and your daily routes before you commit to owning a car.
  • Businesses with a fixed-length project that need a vehicle for a season without buying one.

Short-Term Lease vs Monthly Rental vs a Longer Lease

The right choice depends mainly on how long you will keep the car. Here is how the options compare.

How long you need the carBest fitWhat to expect
A few days to a few weeksStandard rentalDaily or weekly rate. See our rental options in Paphos.
One to three monthsLong-term monthly rentalThe most flexible route, with a monthly rate and replacement support.
Three to six monthsShort-term leaseA fixed monthly figure that is lower than the monthly rental rate for the same car.
A year or moreCar leasingThe lowest monthly figure. It drops again at 24 and 36 months.

A useful rule of thumb: if you are sure you need the car for at least three months, a short-term lease is usually cheaper per month than renting month by month. If your dates are uncertain, the monthly rental is the safer choice because you are not committing to a fixed term.

What a Short-Term Lease Costs

The table near the top of this page lists the current monthly figure for each car in the 3 to 6 month bracket, and for the longer terms so you can compare. Two things are worth knowing before you look at the numbers.

  • The shorter the term, the higher the monthly figure. For example, the Nissan Note is €410 a month on a 3 to 6 month lease and €380 a month on a 6 to 12 month lease. The Suzuki Swift is €510 and €465 for the same two brackets.
  • A refundable deposit applies. It is €500 on the small cars in our list, such as the Nissan Note, Suzuki Swift and Honda Fit, and €900 on the Nissan X-Trail. Our leasing calculator estimates the upfront payment as three monthly payments.

To see how the total compares, take the Nissan Note over six months. At €410 a month that is €2,460 in total. The monthly rental price for the same car on our price list is €450, which would come to €2,700 over the same six months. The lease is the cheaper route as long as you keep the car for the full term.

Choose the term carefully

A lease is a fixed-term agreement. Ask about early termination before you sign, because the terms are set in your lease agreement. If your plans might change, a monthly rental gives you more room.

What Is Included

Our leasing agreements include two free full services and one tyre change during the lease term. The first 20,000 km are free, and extra distance is charged at 75 cents per km. Over three to six months that is a generous allowance for most drivers, since 20,000 km would mean more than 3,000 km every month, but check exactly how the allowance is counted in your agreement. Insurance arrangements are also set out in the agreement, so ask us to walk you through them before you sign.

Documents and Approval

A lease involves a basic credit eligibility check and proof of steady income, which is different from a rental. For personal leasing, bring a valid driving licence, your passport or ID, and proof of address and income. Companies bring their business registration documents, VAT certificate and corporate bank statements.

If you do not want to go through an eligibility check, or you do not have a credit card, a monthly rental may suit you better. Rentals can be paid in cash, and you can read how renting without a credit card works.

Choosing a Car for Three to Six Months

For one or two people, a compact automatic keeps the monthly figure low and makes parking in Paphos easy. The Nissan Note, Suzuki Swift and Honda Fit are all in our lease list. If you will drive between towns every week, carry a lot of luggage, or share the car with a family, look at SUV leasing, which covers the Nissan X-Trail on the same terms.

Living in Tala, Empa or Chloraka? A car matters more there than in the town centre, because buses are infrequent and the shops are a drive away. We deliver to residents across the area, including Tala, Empa and Mesa Chorio and Chloraka and Kissonerga, so you do not have to come into town to collect the car.

What Happens at the End of the Term

At the end of the lease you can return the car and, if you want, move to a different one. You can also extend your agreement, or buy the car at an agreed price. If you decide to buy, our sales and finance page explains how that works. If you simply need to keep driving for a few more weeks, tell us early so we can confirm availability.

How to Start
